The Hymn Tune Innovations series continues with seven more settings, offering a wide variety of composition styles useful throughout the Church Year. This set features a vigorous JESUS, MEINE ZUVERSICHT with a ritornello full of running sixteenths, plus the tune being played as a fanfare on trumpet stops. There is also a jaunty 12/8 HAF TRONES LÄMPA FARDIG. These are balanced by the elegant GALILEAN and ICH WILL DICH LIEBEN that are reminiscent of Bach’s “Air on the G String.” A favorite piece will be the suite of short variations on GOTT IST DIE LIEBE, which takes the simple, cherished tune through a range of treatments, registrations, and keys. A gentle, lilting SLANE and an up-tempo, waltz-like MENDON round off the set.
